HP102, HP1572 – Connecting to the Water Pump

HP102, HP1572 CONNECTING TO THE WATER PUMP

Figure 1

The HP102 and HP1572 have a splined shaft at the rear of the pump. This is used to drive the water pump which is connected directly to the unit.

Care must be taken when connecting the two units. If excessive force is used this will alter the position of the splined shaft and so the pulley hub. The unit will malfunction if this occurs.

We recommend that the securing bolts are tightened in sequence, a small amount each time until the unit is fixed. At no point should either unit be impacted.

Wear in the water pump bearing or a water leak can cause premature failure of this spline. The water pump should be inspected during the installation of a new steering pump and replaced, if necessary.
