Brake Caliper Fitting Guide for Calipers with a handbrake mechanism
Brake Caliper Fitting Guide for Calipers with a handbrake mechanism
Reference to an approved vehicle workshop manual is recommended to ensure correct fitting and adjustment of the brake caliper assembly.
General notes for guidance purposes only
IMPORTANT: DO NOT RECONNECT THE HANDBRAKE CABLE OR PRESS THE FOOT BRAKE UNTIL POINTS 1-6 HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
Ensure the brake caliper piston is fully retracted by one of two methods
Rotate the piston in a clockwise direction using a suitable service tool, applying light pressure if necessary. Follow this with an anti-clockwise half turn to ensure the internal mechanism is reset.
Removing a plug or bolt fitted onto the rear of the calliper body (in line with the piston centre) will expose the hexagon socket of the piston adjuster. Insert an allen key to adjust the piston, turning anti-clockwise to retract the piston followed by half turn clockwise to reset the internal mechanism.
Fit the brake pads to the calliper, then fit assembly to the vehicle
Ensure the clearance between the brake pad and brake disc is between 0.25 – 1.00mm per side (if correct go to Point 5, if incorrect go to Point 4)
When the clearance between the brake pads and brake disc is greater than 0.25-1.00mm, using a suitable service tool, rotate the piston out, using the methods described in points 1a and 1b, until the correct setting is achieved.
Bleed the hydraulic system. (Note: When brake pressure regulators are fitted to the vehicle, they may need to be secured in the “Max” position prior to bleeding).
Fully depress the foot brake pedal 4/6 times to properly activate the self adjusting mechanism of the brake calliper.
Fit and adjust the handbrake cable.
DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY AS A RESULT OF FITTING ERROR MAY NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR CLAIM UNDER WARRANTY
