Electric Steering Rack: Core Acceptance Guidelines

Core Units

Core units are only accepted on a like for like basis and must be returned in a Shaftec box reducing the risks of damage during transit. This also aids identification and speeds up the Core Credit process.

All our core unit returns are visually inspected. If any of the Criteria listed is not met, then the unit will be rejected and scrapped.

Checks to be carried out

Tie Rods damaged or missing. £20 Reduction
Bent due to an impact; cut off during rack removal; flat threads; damaged spanner flats from track rod end adjustment / removal.
Body or Mounting bracket damage.
Broken castings / Bent case body / Broken off, cracked or stripped thread mounting brackets.
Pinion damaged.
Bent or the splines can be damaged or cut, preventing refitting of the universal joint.
Damaged Plastics / Connectors.
This refers to the ECU plugs / covers and Torque sensor plugs / covers.
Damaged or Cut wiring.
Motor cables or Torque Sensor cable being cut or plugs cut off.
Dented or Missing Motor / ECU (ERRM Part numbers).
Unit could have been dropped or impacted in an accident.
The Rack is seized.
It does not turn through its travel both ways. This can be checked by placing mole grips on to the pinion and turning.
The unit has been tampered with.
Components have been clearly swapped or it is sent back in pieces.
The unit’s rack bar has excessive rust or is bent. Full Rejection
Caused by Torn gaiters and / or a heavy impact.
