Installation Instructions for Power Steering Columns
The following steps should be observed when installing a new Electronic Power Steering Column:
- Prior to installation, determine the cause of failure and repair as necessary. Failure to do so, may lead to premature failure of the new column.
- Compare the replacement column with that removed to ensure fixings and connections all match.
- Turn ignition on while ensuring that the engine is not started
- Using the OEM recommended diagnostic software, remove any fault codes from the ECU.
- Please note should an Electronic Column fail, there will always be a fault code logged by the ECU regardless of the failure. Please make a check on the diagnostic software being used if you cannot find any faults as the software may not be suitable for the vehicle.
- Turn off iginition
- It is imperative that the ignition is left in the OFF position, please do not turn the ignition back on to check if the fault codes have returned.
- Disconnect the battery
- Remove the faulty Electronic Steering Column
- Locate and fit the new Electronic Column as per the OEM workshop manual
- Please note if the fault codes have not been removed from the ECU there is a possibility of the codes been transferred to the new column.
- Ensure that 1 hour has passed (from disconnection of battery) before reconnecting the battery.
- As per step 3, turn on the ignition. Do not start the engine.
- Make a complete scan using the diagnostic software and continue to calibrate if required.
- Complete a full road test
