Keeping your car on the road

While some EVs operate without a traditional driveshaft, many still utilise them along with differentials and drive axles. We want to ensure we can provide quality parts to owners seeking maintenance from independent garages, not just official dealerships.

Shaftec Marketing Manager Adrian Kitchen said: “At Shaftec, we work hard to meet the needs of all our customers. We know there is still a huge requirement for parts which fit older vehicles – as people are leaning towards keeping their cars on the roads for longer due to financial constraint. However, we also try to balance this with meeting the needs of more up-to-date vehicles. This includes accommodating hybrid vehicles and EVs which we firmly believe that once out of warranty, owners should have the freedom of choice to take to their local independent garages for service and repair.”

Top tips from the experts

As a leader in remanufacturing driveshafts since our founding in 1979, Shaftec has the expertise to create reliable components for both traditional and electric vehicles. But how can you evaluate the condition of a driveshaft on an EV?

Here are a few tips:

  • Inspect for any cracks, dents or other damage, as a damaged driveshaft can cause vibrations or noise
  • Check inner/outer joints for play or looseness; worn inner/outer joints will need to be replaced
  • Listen while driving for any clunking or grinding noises, which may indicate issues
  • Feel for any vibrations, especially at higher speeds, as this is a telltale sign of driveshaft problems

If you notice any of these warning signs, have a professional mechanic inspect and replace the parts as needed.
